Main Functions of Crane Spring Cylinders

Anti-backward tilt function

In crawler cranes, spring cylinders are typically employed in devices designed to prevent backward tilting. For instance, during operations with the tower jib, the significant elevation angle can lead to a risk of the jib tilting backward. To counteract this, an anti-tilting device is generally fitted at the base of the tower jib’s front spar. Utilizing the elastic potential energy stored in the oil and gas spring cylinder, it can offer essential support when the jib tends to tilt back, thus averting any tilting incidents.

Cushioning and stabilizing output force

The incorporation of springs into the cylinder notably enhances its performance output. Springs serve as buffers during the cylinder’s operation, minimizing abrupt pressure fluctuations within the oil line and ensuring a steady output force. Additionally, springs contribute to a quicker response time for the cylinder. When hydraulic pressure is applied, the spring initially experiences stress, followed by a gradual transfer of force to the cylinder, which significantly boosts the response speed.

Prevent the piston rod from falling

In tire-type hydraulic gantry cranes, the jacking cylinder is secured with a spring top bead. This innovative design effectively prevents the piston rod from descending by locking the cylinder during the retraction of the piston rod. When the piston rod is extended, the top bead disengages, allowing the cylinder to elevate the crane. Such a mechanism is crucial in preventing accidents related to the piston rod falling, thereby ensuring safe crane operations.
